Giddy up for Melbourne Cup

It’s that time of year again where we don our feathered fascinators and Sunday best, have a champers or three and place our bets.

But it’s not all about our four legged friends, fashion and French fizz.  Food must be the most important aspect of any Melbourne Cup gathering. Standard.

So what makes the best culinary delicacies for the race that stops a nation? It would seem a feat of massive proportions to ask any normal soul to place a cheeky bet, be in complete suspense for around three minutes and twenty seconds, all after a tipple or two and then have the dexterity to hold a plate and fork.

No no no, this will not do fellow foodies.  We must have class and sophistication for such an event.  Gorgeous little morsels of bite size yumminess are the only solution.  Easy to eat in one bite.

Depending on your level of sophistication, your feast could range from a mini pie to a caramelised onion and goat curd tart or some delicious varietals of mini sandwich cubes.  Let’s not forget the sweet treats with mini snickers brownies, roast rhubarb and custard meringues or little shots of pimms jelly with strawberries and cream.
